Kooperatywa 2

Kooperatywa 2 (Cooperative 2) is the idea of integrating artists in the creation of a joint work while fully respecting their personality and creative freedom. The idea and the name are not new. A similar action was successfully carried out by my professor of drawing Jacek Bigoszewski in the 1980s, under the title Kooperatywa. Borrowing the title highlights the continuation of the Professor’s concept, while the added number 2 indicates the order of the project’s edition. The formula is different, the artists do not work on one underpainting in bigger or smaller groups; on the contrary, they realize their works individually. This time, artists not only from the Łódź milieu have been invited to the project. Apart from the Łódź artists, the ones from academic centres in Poznań, Rzeszów, Banská Bystrica, Sofia, Vilnius have also contributed to the whole project. Each of the participants accepted the invitation to create 25 works in the technique they chose for the project. As a result, the collection includes both cycles of painting and drawing works, as well as graphics. The underpainting is paper and canvas – without frames, of course. All works are in A3 format. The works are arranged in order in specially designed, numbered portfolios, which are also one-of-a-kind. Each of the participants is the owner of a set with an attached notebook, presenting the artists and their artwork. The remaining portfolios can be found in the Library ofthe Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź the National Library in Warsaw, the Jagiellonian Library in Kraków and the Ossolineum in Wrocław.
